GDF-8 (Growth Differentiation Factor-8, also known as Myostatin) is a protein belonging to the TGF-β superfamily and primarily acts as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth. It binds to the TGF-β type II receptor, activates downstream signaling pathways, and inhibits the proliferation and growth of muscle cells.
